Hunda Island

Hunda Island is a large, wildlife-rich island in the Jao Concession (NG25) in the western Okavango Delta of Botswana. It forms part of a private wilderness concession of about 60,000 hectares, with Moremi Game Reserve forming the eastern boundary. During the annual flood, Hunda becomes the largest area of dry land within the Jao Concession, making it an important refuge for wildlife.





The island has a mixture of sandveld, acacia and Grewia woodland, seasonal floodplains and wetlands. This combination creates excellent habitat for wildlife, particularly browsing animals and predators. Hunda is known for good opportunities to see elephants, antelope, lions, leopards, African wild dogs and spotted hyenas.





Hunda is especially attractive for safari because it offers both dry-land game viewing and access to Okavango waterways. Depending on water levels and the camp, visitors can enjoy game drives, night drives, walking, boating and mokoro excursions. The wider Okavango Delta is renowned for its exceptional diversity of mammals and birds.





The area is home to Wilderness Tubu Tree Camp and Wilderness Little Tubu, both positioned on the western side of Hunda Island. Little Tubu Camp Tubu Tree is particularly well positioned for combining wetland and dry-land wildlife experiences.
